What is semaglutide?
Semaglutide is an injectable once-weekly GLP-1 medication prescribed to support appetite control and weight management. Shapely works with reputable state-licensed 503A and 503B compounding pharmacies to ship the medication straight to your door with no need for insurance!
How does semaglutide work?
Semaglutide works by mimicking a natural hormone in the body called GLP-1, which helps regulate appetite and blood sugar levels, leading to reduced hunger and increased feelings of fullness.
What are compounded medications?
Compounded medications are prescription treatments custom-prepared by licensed pharmacies based on your provider’s clinical evaluation of your individual needs. This may include personalized formulations or dosage strengths not available in commercially manufactured medications. While compounded medications are not FDA-approved, Shapely works exclusively with reputable, state-licensed 503A and 503B compounding pharmacies that operate under established safety and quality standards.
Will my insurance cover the cost?
Compounded medications are not reimbursed by insurance and are considered self-pay only. If you are interested in getting medications covered by insurance, we also do prescribe Zepbound®, Mounjaro®, Ozempic®, Wegovy´® and other brand name medications, and our team of expert prior authorization specialists can help you get them covered by insurance.

What does my insurance cover?
We navigate insurance on your behalf and are able to work with the vast majority of insurances to get cost-effective access to GLP-1 medications like Wegovy® and Zepbound® . For patients with commercial insurance, medication co-pays are typically $25 per month but depending on the plan may be higher. At this time, Medicare only covers these medications for patients with diabetes, cardiovascular disease (such as stroke or heart attack), and obstructive sleep apnea.
If you do not have insurance, or if insurance doesn't cover the cost of medications, we offer an accessibility program and can send your prescriptions to a compounding pharmacy. Labs are also typically covered by insurance though there may be a co-pay. For patients without insurance, we offer labs for a flat-rate of $75, requiring you to go to a Labcorp location for lab draw.
For members choosing to use insurance for their visits with Shapely, insurance covers any visits with our expert team of providers and dietitians, though you may be responsible for any cost-sharing, such as co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurances. In addition, you will still have a membership fee which covers use of our app, chat features with your Shapely team, access to exclusive education, tracking tools, and concierge support locating medications at local pharmacies.

What if I don’t have insurance?
If you don’t have insurance, or if your insurance doesn’t cover your medication, there are still options.
Shapely can help patients access self-pay programs for FDA-approved medications, such as Wegovy® through NovoCare® and Zepbound® through Lilly Direct®, which may offer discounted pricing for eligible patients.
In some cases, your provider may determine that a compounded medication is clinically appropriate based on your individual needs. When prescribed, compounded medications are offered on a self-pay basis, with pricing starting at $99 per month for compounded semaglutide and $166 per month for compounded tirzepatide.
Shapely is not affiliated with Novo Nordisk, Eli Lilly, or their patient programs. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and are prepared by state-licensed pharmacies based on a provider’s clinical judgment.

How much weight will I lose?
Patients on FDA-approved GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy lose an average 15% of their weight when combined with diet and exercise. With Mounjaro and Zepbound, average weight loss is 20.9%. Note that results are not guaranteed and may vary. With other medications, weight loss can be up to 10%. Ultimately, your weight loss journey is a personal one, and your Shapely team will be by your side to help you achieve your best results
How long will it take me to lose weight?
Typically, we find that patients taking FDA-approved GLP-1 agonists such as Ozempic and Wegovy will lose 10% of weight by 6 months and 15% within 1 year. Results will vary by patient, intervention, and medication prescribed (if appropriate). We find that patients benefit from at least a 12 month comprehensive weight-loss program to establish the proper habits to sustain long-term weight loss
What if I'm ineligible for a GLP-1 agonist?
If you are not a good candidate for GLP-1 agonists, our providers will offer different modalities of weight loss for you, including alternative medications, lifestyle modification, continuous glucose monitoring, and other tools.
Will I need labs as a Shapely patient?
Recent labs are strongly recommended (but not required) prior to initiation of most weight loss medications. We will either order labs for you or accept labs completed within 6 months prior to program enrollment. Labs are typically covered by insurance though there may be a co-pay. For patients without insurance, we offer labs for a flat-rate of $75, requiring you to go to a Labcorp location for lab draw.
